Small cells can make a big difference in Delaware

Our customers want to download content faster, stream movies with amazing quality, keep calls connected without interruption, have greater control of their home — even when they are not there. There are many more reasons to make sure our network is the best possible for our customers and our community.

These enhancements will help improve speed, capacity and quality on our wireless network and also help us prepare for the next generation 5G technology.

What’s the issue?

Over the last 10 years (Jan. ’07–Dec. ’16), data on the AT&T mobile network has increased about 250,000%. And, as streaming video online increases, and new apps and services are introduced, this growth in data use will only continue to rise.

With this increased demand and pressure on the mobile network, we are thinking of new and innovative ways to enhance our network and prepare for the future.

One of these solutions is the deployment of small cells.

The size and flexibility of small cells helps AT&T target areas needing additional capacity in a way that is low profile and unobtrusive.

Depending on the need, small cells can be placed inside buildings or outdoors. When placed outdoors, they can be attached to existing utility poles, light poles, traffic lights or exterior walls of buildings. And indoors, small cells can be placed above ceiling tiles or attached to drop ceiling mounts.

Lay the foundation required to support the technologies of the future, such as 5G, smart cities and new developments in the Internet of Things (IoT).
