Marc Blakeman is AT&T’s New Mid-Atlantic President

Marc Blakeman is the new president of AT&T’s Mid-Atlantic region.

In this role, Blakeman is responsible for developing the overall strategic direction for AT&T's legislative, regulatory, public policy and philanthropic initiatives in Delaware, Maryland, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Virginia, and Washington, DC. He replaces J. Michael Schweder who retired in November 2018 after 35 years with the company.

Blakeman will report to Marissa Shorenstein, who was recently appointed president of AT&T’s newly created Northern Region. Marissa will continue to oversee the company’s external affairs for all states from Maine to Virginia, including Washington, DC — adding new responsibility for Illinois, Indiana, Michigan and Ohio.

“Marc’s prior leadership experience in Illinois and California — combined with his deep commitment to the communities where he has lived and worked — have prepared him well for his new role in an important geography for our company. I am pleased to have him join the team in the Northern Region and look forward to his leadership in the Mid-Atlantic states as we welcome a new era of innovation and technology to deliver the best service for our customers,” said Marissa Shorenstein, President – AT&T Northern Region.

From December 2014 until his appointment, Blakeman was Vice President – External Affairs for AT&T California where he unified planning and strategic leadership across the five External Affairs regions in California to ensure a statewide approach to how AT&T manages relationships with external clients and stakeholders, including elected officials and community and civic leaders.

His previous roles at AT&T include serving as regional vice president of External Affairs for AT&T California’s San Francisco/Silicon Valley/Central Coast region. He joined AT&T’s predecessor, Ameritech, in 1997 after serving as Director of Chicago Operations for the Lieutenant Governor of Illinois.

“From the Appalachians to the Atlantic — and from Norfolk, VA, to Newark, NJ — the Mid-Atlantic is a diverse region where AT&T’s roots run deep. For more than a century, we’ve worked with government, business and civic leaders and organizations across the region to connect their communities to each other and their world. We have a lot to accomplish in a fast-changing world, and I look forward to building on our legacy of innovation and collaboration for years to come,” Blakeman said.

While in San Francisco, Marc served on the boards of directors of several non-profit organizations including GenesysWorks Bay Area, Berkeley Repertory Theater, Meals on Wheels of San Francisco, Equality California (EQCA), and San Francisco Citizens Initiative for Technology and Innovation (SF CITI).

A graduate of Northwestern University with a B.A. in political science, Marc also received his certification in corporate community relations from the John Carroll Graduate School of Management at Boston College. A native of downstate Illinois, Marc now resides in Washington, DC.
