The newly named computer science and technology center will provide at-risk youth and families in need with the opportunity of computer literacy and access to educational resources.
LIGHT’s Founding CEO, Debbie J. Rock, introduced the Congressman. “We are so grateful that our organization and community have Congressman Cummings as an ally. With his support, we look forward to continuing our mission to promote the health and wellness and education of children, families and individuals impacted by health and social disparities through the establishment of the Cummings Technology Center.”
Congressman Cummings has been a strong advocate of LIGHT’s programs for the past twenty years. “I am honored to be recognized by LIGHT and look forward to the doors the new Technology Center will open for the youth of West Baltimore. It is critically important that our youth are better prepared to succeed in school and ultimately further their career goals. This center will provide the tools necessary to brighten the futures of many in this community.”
The computer and technology center were made possible through support to LIGHT from AT&T** and Microsoft. “We are thankful to be able to play a small part in providing this community’s parents and their children with proper access to technological literacy and STEM education,” said AT&T’s Peter Jacoby.
Speaking on Microsoft’s behalf, Fred Humphries stated, “Increasing access to digital skills is critical because these skills are needed to succeed in the 21st century economy. That’s why we are proud to support this new center, named in honor of Congressman Cummings and designed to help Baltimore’s educators, children, and families gain skills needed for today’s jobs and tomorrow’s opportunities.”
