AT&T Virtual Reality Experience Tour, FirstNet at Fire Expo 2019 in Harrisburg on May 17-19

Striking 3D Experience Will Show the Dangers of Smartphone Distracted Driving

FirstNet team will be on hand to showcase mobile broadband network built with AT&T for first responders.

AT&T is setting up its unique, 3D virtual reality experience at the Lancaster County Firemen's Association Fire Expo 2019 to demonstrate the dangers of smartphone distracted driving. The FirstNet team at AT&T will also be at the Expo to highlight FirstNet, the nationwide, wireless communications platform dedicated to America’s first responders and public safety community.

The annual Expo will be held May 17–19, 2019, at the Farm Show Complex in Harrisburg.

People are doing much more than texting while behind the wheel, and new research from AT&T shows it’s not just happening behind the wheel — 4-in-10 drivers e-scoot/e-bike while distracted. What’s perhaps most shocking is the sharp rise in the consumption of immersive content behind the wheel, including watching videos and video chatting, which both nearly doubled from 2015.

To illustrate this for drivers of all ages, this unique virtual reality experience will allow attendees to come face-to-face with the very real dangers of distracted driving through a memorial wall, a wall of keys representing lives lost and a wall made to look like crushed car parts. The experience includes testimonials from first responders who often have to deal with the consequences of distracted driving. The VR experience will be set up in the Main Hall spaces 522–523. It will operational from 10 a.m. until 5 p.m. on Friday and Saturday, and 10 a.m. until 4 p.m. on Sunday.

“This is the third year we’ve delivered our It Can Wait message at the Pennsylvania Fire Expo. It’s another way we can team up with our first responders to help raise awareness and save lives,” said David Kerr, president, AT&T Pennsylvania.

Backed by Congress, FirstNet is designed to modernize public safety communications, helping first responders connect to the critical information they need — every day and in every emergency. FirstNet is built with AT&T in a public-private partnership with the First Responder Network Authority — an independent agency within the federal government. The FirstNet exhibit will be set up in the Farm Show spine in spaces 22–24.
