AT&T Teams with Roadtrip Nation to Inspire More York Students to Pursue STEM Careers

Roadtrip Nation's iconic green RV will roll into William Penn Senior High School on Thursday, November 9, for an event to inspire students to explore the real-life possibilities of a career in the STEM fields. This event is made possible by a $2.2 million contribution from AT&T as part of its AT&T Aspire initiative.

The event begins at 9 a.m. at William Penn, which is located at 101 W College Ave. in York. Pennsylvania State Representative Carol Hill-Evans will kick off the program.

Following Roadtrip Nation’s recently launched documentary series, “A Balanced Equation,” this event and others like it around the country, will help students learn how their personal interests could lead to a successful career in STEM. The students will have the opportunity to interview a professional from the community, and watch interviews of inspiring women who are shaping the world in the STEM industries.

“Sharing stories and experiencing firsthand what career options are available are pillars of Roadtrip Nation’s mission,” said Mike Marriner, co-founder of Roadtrip Nation. “With the help of AT&T, we are able to bring to life real stories of trailblazing women who charted their own paths in STEM careers to students at William Penn High School and across the country.”

Women make up 48 percent of the workforce, but hold only 23 percent of STEM jobs. The mission behind the documentary and this tour is to challenge this inequality by highlighting stories of women and empowering young people everywhere to discover how a career in these fields can have a positive impact on the future.

“‘A Balanced Equation’ showcases the vast opportunities in STEM, and the impact that female STEM professionals are having in all areas of our society,” said Nicole Anderson, assistant vice president, social innovation, AT&T services. “We hope this event will inspire young people to pursue their own career path in one of these fields.”
