AT&T* is boosting network capacity at Pimlico Race Course on Saturday, May 20, for the 142nd annual Preakness Stakes to give customers a seamless network experience.
To keep the data-hungry crowds connected, we’re bringing in a Cell on Wheels (COW), the equivalent of multiple cell sites, to accommodate expected increased wireless network demands from high concentrations of smartphone users on the Preakness grounds.
The improved coverage will give customers faster and more reliable connections, and boost capacity by 1150%.
“Events like Preakness are full of moments customers want to share through texts, pictures, status updates and phone calls,” said Denis P. Dunn, president, AT&T Maryland. “We’re working to give them great coverage and faster speeds on race day.”
AT&T network personnel will be on site at Pimlico Race Course during the races to monitor the wireless network, keeping spectators connected. The enhancements are part of AT&T’s ongoing efforts to prepare for and provide the best possible mobile experience during special events like The Preakness Stakes.
We continue to see increased data usage across our mobile network, especially at big events. In fact, data on our mobile network has increased about 250,000% since 2007, and the majority of that traffic is video.
AT&T’s investment will help customers get the most out of their mobile devices. With 4G LTE service on the nation’s best data network², customers will experience better network connectivity while streaming videos, sharing on social media or texting family and friends.
